You will be asked to indicate whether your presentation is a paper (oral presentation) or a poster, and you will be asked to select a subject category for your talk.
As per ABS policy, talk submissions will be accepted in the order they are received until the maximum available talk slots are filled. After this point, presenters will be offered the opportunity to present their work during one of our two Poster sessions. Program Officers will contact presenters as soon as possible to inform them of the status of their submission.
Joint day presentations. You will be asked indicate whether you want your paper to be considered for presentation on the morning of the ABS/HBES joint day, Thursday, June 14. The HBES and ABS submission pools will each contribute half of the talks on that day. Papers selected for presentation will be ones judged to be of broad interest to members of both societies. ABS papers not selected for the joint day will be considered for talks during the regular ABS conference in the order received.
Oral presentations during the ABS program should be 12 minutes with 3 minutes for questions.
Oral presentations chosen for the Joint day contributed talk session should be 15 min with 5 min for questions.
Posters will be presented two special sessions held the evenings of June 12 and June 13. Details of poster dimensions will be announced later.
NOTE: Registration is completed separately from abstract submission. Registration MUST be completed by the deadline posted, or abstracts will be rejected.

Proposed symposia. The HBES Program Committee will consider proposals for organized symposia. Each proposed symposium should consist of either 4 or 5 talks. (One morning session each day will have 5 talks; two afternoon sessions will have 4 talks.) Authors of each paper must submit an abstract through the regular submission process and indicate, where asked, that their papers are part of proposed symposia. In addition, the symposium organizer should submit a title, description, and rationale of the symposium (200 words or less) to the email address abshbes@unm.edu no later than March 31, 2012. All papers proposed for the symposium (author list, title) should be listed in order of presentation.
Awards. At each annual conference, the Human Behavior and Evolution Society makes two important awards based on submitted papers: The New Investigator Award, an award for the best paper by a graduate student, and the Post-Doctoral Research Award, an award for the best paper by an individual who completed a PhD within the past 5 years. Each award comes with a $500 cash prize. To be considered for the competition, papers must be orally presented as well as written and submitted. The individual competing for the award must be the primary contributor to the paper entered (though co-authors are permitted.) If you fit one of these categories and are delivering a paper you wish to be considered for the award, (1) send an email to the conference email address, abshbes@unm.edu, by APRIL 15, 2012, stating that you intend to submit a written paper (on which your oral presentation is based) into a specific competition (please specify which one) and (2) submit the paper you wish to enter into the award competition by MAY 10, 2012, using the same email address. No late entries will be considered. (HBES also gives an award for the best poster, and all posters are eligible.)
